Pants or plan?

It seems the writing world can get just as hot and bothered about whether it’s better to be a pantser or a planner as people can get about how they take their Earl Grey tea.

Before I began to seriously read craft books, I’d never thought about the necessity to think ahead where the characters might go. I just followed them along whatever path they fancied to go down.

However, after seeing it recommended time and again that planning out a book is the best, even if you end up veering far away from the route that you had intended, I decided to give it a try. Well, my cue cards are still as blank as those in the picture.

It appears I’m a pantser at heart.

With the books that I’ve written, I could see a clear beginning, middle and end. The bits that strung them together just came as I wrote along.

(Psssst! I take my Earl Grey with milk! Shock and horror!)
