Loving ‘The Emotion Thesaurus’!

Recently I purchased ‘The Emotion Thesaurus’ by Angela Akerman and Becca Puglisi based on a recommendation I saw in one of my writing craft books. Let me tell you, it was definitely a tip worth following! These ladies have made it so much easier to add richness of character to writing by (what do the craft books always say?) showing, not telling!

Different emotions have been listed in alphabetical order. Then a definition is provided to ensure this is what your after. Then, making a writer’s life so much simpler, they’ve listed physical signals, internal sensations, mental responses, cues of acute or long-term (emotion), and cues of suppressed (emotion). For every single emotion! It makes painting the picture of your character that much easier.

Also, they’ve put incredibly useful ‘writer’s tip’ sections throughout the book which just add more value overall.

If you don’t have this writer’s craft book on your shelf, it’s time to invest!
